Matthew has more than 20 years of private legal practice focusing exclusively on employee benefits and has represented clients in front of the DOL, IRS and PBGC. In 2023, he was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel. He is an active member of the Employee Benefits Committee of the American Bar Association Tax Section and currently serves as co-chair of the Defined Contribution Plans Subcommittee and vice chair of the Defined Contribution Lifetime Income Subcommittee.

Matthew oversees the firm’s fiduciary investment consulting services and its proprietary financial wellness platform, which is powered by Financial Fitness for Life. He creates fiduciary education and training resources, writes fiduciary newsletters, news alerts, and white papers, and leads the annual Qualified Plan Fiduciary Summit. He also serves in lead investment consultant, relationship manager, and compliance support roles for institutional clients.

Matthew graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (B.S.B.A., highest distinction) and Baylor Law School (J.D., magna cum laude), where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Baylor Law Review and competed on the National Moot Court and Mock Trial teams. His wife, Laura, is a psychologist who founded and built REbeL, Inc., a not-for-profit organization. Matthew enjoys spending time coaching their three boys’ teams, traveling, watching college football and way too much Netflix, and running.
